‘Apex Legends' will Get Dedicated PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Updates Today

Apex Legends' long-awaited current-gen versions are almost here. When the Warriors Collection event kicks off today, Respawn Entertainment will offer native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the battle royale.

All three consoles will offer 4K output and full 60Hz gaming and HDR. Higher-resolution shadow maps and greater level-of-detail distances are added to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X editions (so you can see objects from further away).

Given the quick speed of Apex Legends battles and the fact that the developers have long discussed that feature as one of their priorities for the current-gen versions, the lack of 120 fps capabilities at launch will be upsetting for many. Still, once the native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are out, developers should find it easier to distribute updates across all platforms, so perhaps it won't be long until 120 fps support is enabled.

If you have the Xbox One edition, the Xbox Series X/S editions of Apex Legends should instantly download, thanks to Microsoft's Smart Delivery technology. If they do not have the PS4 edition, PS5 gamers will need to manually download their console's version via the Apex Legends game page settings or from the PSN shop.

Aside from the current-gen variants, Apex Legends gamers will be able to check out a lot more later today. The popular 9v9 Control mode, which debuted earlier this year, is back through April 12th. The Caustic Treatment section of King's Canyon is being modified so that it may serve as a Control battlefield.

Drop-Off is a new map for the 3v3 Arena team deathmatch format. During the Warriors Collection event, a collection of 24 limited-time cosmetics, including skins, will be available. If you collect all of them, you'll be able to unlock a new sword Heirloom item for Crypto.
